Was really excited to try Walnut Grill. My husband and I have been talking about it for some time now. The menu is huge, the portions are great for the price, and the alcohol/dessert list is large as well.
They start you off with bread and two fresh butters. Bread was good, extremely crunchy outer shell, with a nice soft fluffy interior. But the butters were just okay. One was ginger brown butter? It was lacking in favor, and had a texture like mashed potatoes. The second butter was better, but I still would’ve rather had regular butter lol. It was an orange pepper butter.
My husband added a side salad to his meal, and it was a really good sized salad. Packed full of mixed lettuce, croutons, shredded cheese cucumber slices, and tomatoes. Unfortunately the plate they serve it on is super tiny, so we lost a good bit of everything, to the floor.
My husband’s meal consisted of a NY steak, topped with a gorgonzola mix (the texture was like cous cous…mmmmm delicious), mushrooms, and sweet just-barely-fried onions. IT WAS A DELICIOUS COMBINATION!! Great flavor, lots of savory and sweet to balance everything out. And the steak had almost no fat on it, so it was more similar to a filet. Severed with a perfectly baked potato, and a slaw like no other (shredded cabbage, brussel sprouts and carrots).
My meal…. I decided to go with some really Pittsburgh-ian. The Pittsburgh Flatbread. And it was delicious!!! A grilled flat bread with BBQ sauce, grilled chunk chicken, bacon, mozzarella, provolone, and of course FRIES. Served with a side of ranch. Oh man!! So good!!
Wins: quality of food for price, flavor combinations, decor.
Concerns: THE FLOORS ARE SUPER SLIPPERY (ladies do not wear your heels here), salad plates could be larger.
Conclusion: we’ll be back…SOON!
